Former p olice det ective A drian Monk (Ton y Shalho ub), who se phot ographic m emory and amazing abil ity to pie ce together tin y clues made him a loca l legen d, has suffere d from i ntensifi ed obsessiv e-compul sive disor der and a var iety of phob ias since the unsolv ed murder of h is wife, Tr udy, in 1997. Now on psychiatr ic leave from t he San Franci sco Police Department and working as a freelan ce detective/ c onsulta nt on difficul t cases, Mon k hopes to convince his former bos s, Capt ain Lel and Stottl emeyer (Ted Le vine), to allo w him to r eturn to th e force. Stott lemeyer, wh o wavered b etween admi ration for M onk and an noyance at his ecce ntricities duri ng the fi rst season, is becoming more of a fri end to Monk as the series de velops, fr equently c alling him in to help, as mu ch for Monk&am p;#39;s benefit as for h is own. How ever, he knows Monk's limitations a s well as his s trengths and may still harbor doubt s about t he wisdom of allowing Mon k to carry a gu n or subdue a perpetrato r. Stott lemeyer&#39 ;s second-in-c ommand, Lieu tenant Ran dall Di sher (J ason Gray-St anford) , also seems t o be de veloping both admir ation and compass ion for the man he o nce labeled &am p;quot;the defective detecti ve.& ;quot; Despite flaws and inadequacies a ll around, the three are becoming an in creasing ly effec tive tea m, with ad ditional help from Monk' s personal as sistant. From t he double-e pisode pilot through the fir st half of season three , Monk was aid ed by hi s nurse, Sha rona Fleming (Bitty S chram). But in th e tenth episode of th e third seas on, Sharona was replaced b y a new a ssistant, Nat alie Teeger (Tr aylor Howard). Like Sha rona, a divor cee with a son named Benjy , Natalie is a single pa rent, a widow with a daughte r named Julie (Emm y Clarke). Unlike Sharon a, Nat alie is not a n urse but a former bartender with a fre sh perspective on & quot;Mr. Monk , " as she still address es her new boss.详情
