Set at the tur n of the century, th e story concern s a Pol ish poe t living in C racow who has d ecided to marry a pe asant gir l. The wedd ing is a ttended by a h eterogenous group of p eople fro m all st rata of Polish soc iety, who danc e, get drunk and lament Pol and&# 39;s 100-year- long division of Poland under Rus sia, Prus sia, and Aus tria.
