All in a ll this movie c annot be cons idered le ss than excelle nt. So yes, ma ybe some o f the scenes do n' t result quite the way the y should, but most of them do. Par ticularly th e scene fr om the carniv al at t he beginn ing of the m ovie and the last scene bri ng you to the verge o f tears. Yes it also ma ny elements o f a catholic moral (Ro sario li ves in guilt, her way of paying her sins is by means of s acrifice), but we have to c onsider the m ovie was releas ed in 1934 and the Mexican so ciety of the ti me had t hose values dic tating ou r lives and, weath er we take this into con sideration o r not, I think the the pl ot is reall y really toug h and the the me very s trong. Maybe nowaday s we hav e many movie s with plots th at are twice o r thrice as to ugh, but I th ink this is still a great, great movie and h as no soap ope ra can nev er even remot ely compare wi th it.
