From a critica l perspect ive, series creato r Aaron Sorkin ackno wledged in October 2002 that the terrorism-re lated pl ots designed t o keep the ser ies relevan t after the real-life 9/11 attacks were awkw ard at times, saying &q uot;from we ek to week, you felt like you were wr iting the sho w handcuffe d, a li ttle bit.
