In 1965, Bob Cra ne, who had ac hieved some ea rlier su ccess as a television supporting ac tor, was working as a success ful morni ng radio DJ a t KNX Los Angeles. Despite en joying his wor k, photograp hy (espec ially of the female form) and dru mming, C rane wanted to be a movi e star. So it was with som e reluctanc e that he acce pted the title starri ng role i n a new television sitcom ca lled Hog an' s Heroes (1965) , a WWII POW comedy. To his surprise, the show became a hit an d catap ulted him to tele vision stardom. The fam e resul ting from the show l ed to excesses and a mee ting with home video sale sman and tech nician John C arpenter, wi th who he would form a frie ndship b ased on their mutual interest s, namely e xcessive sex (for Crane , purel y heterosex ual sex) and ca pturing nude fe males on celluloid.
