Alaska Rose has had a dif ficult few yea rs since her m om left t he family four years prior; act ing out , rebell ing against he r single dad , Conner, getting into trouble in sch ool and worse . But when s he turns eighte en, Alaska finds hers elf in front of a judg e in adult co urt for some of the same out-of-contro l behav ior. In lieu of a jail sen tence, Al aska is or dered to do community service i n an assisted living facility where she is assigned to Mr s. Foster, an elderly re sident w ho is unappro achable at best and hosti le at her worst.
