Aston (Ro bert Sha w), a quiet, reserve d man, liv es alone in a top-f loor clutte red room of a small aba ndoned hou se in a poor London distric t. He befr iends and takes i n Mac Davies (Donald Pleasen ce), an ol d derelict who has b een fired from a menial job i n a café. In time Aston o ffers h im a job as careta ker of the h ouse.
