Atka Natas is a secret agent from the oppr essive reg ime of L iquidatzia. H e visits hi s estranged wife Vera , a chemist wh o is invo lved with a group of ex iles trying to smuggle their compatri ots out of Liquidatzia . Almkvi st, an ho nest local p oliceman and forme r lover of Ve ra&#39 ;s, con tacts her whi le invest igating t he death o f one o f the refugees . Natas has a list of a gents operat ing in the h ost cou ntry and wants t o sell them to the Ameri cans.
